Our Forestry Services

What We Can Do For You

Woodland Thinning & Selective Felling

We provide low-impact woodland thinning for sensitive, restricted sites using motor-manual felling. Our selective removal improves forest health while ensuring full compliance with management goals and grant requirements

Ash Dieback Management

We provide safe, phased ash dieback removal to address hazards across Herefordshire. Our service includes risk assessments and replanting guidance to restore woodland diversity while preserving healthy specimens

Low-Impact Timber Extraction

Our low-impact extraction uses a 2.8-ton arb-digger and David Brown tractor to navigate challenging terrain without compaction. Our tracked chipper prevents rutting, making us perfect for SSSI and sensitive sites.

Site Clearance & Brash Processing

We provide complete site clearance, using tracked chippers to process brash and eliminate burning. We stack timber professionally and ensure pristine site conditions, a standard highly valued by estate managers

Woodland Thinning & Selective Felling

Our woodland thinning services focus on improving forest health through selective removal of poor-quality stems, overcrowded areas, and diseased trees. Using motor-manual felling techniques, we can work in restricted-access areas where larger machinery cannot reach, making us ideal for ancient woodlands, steep terrain, and conservation sites. Every thinning project begins with a comprehensive assessment where we mark trees for retention and removal, ensuring our work aligns with your woodland management objectives and any grant scheme requirements.

Sensitive Extraction & Professional Estate Services

As a contractor registered on the Forestry England portal, we understand the high standards required for sensitive woodland management and SSSI sites. Our methodology focuses on 'small-footprint' extraction, utilizing our compact tracked chipper and timber-grab excavator to navigate tight stands and soft ground where larger machinery cannot reach. From precision felling to boundary fencing and minor works, we offer Herefordshire landowners a reliable, local solution for maintaining productive and healthy woodlands with minimal environmental footprint.

SSSI Compliance & Environmental Standards

Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) are England's most valuable natural habitats, protected by law and subject to stringent management requirements. Forestry work on SSSI sites requires contractors who understand Natural England regulations, can demonstrate appropriate methodology, and have proven experience working within environmental constraints. Treecision is registered on the Forestry England portal, a credential that requires demonstration of professional standards, appropriate insurance, and environmental competence. Our SSSI-compliant approach includes pre-work ecological surveys to identify sensitive features, timing work to avoid nesting season and other ecological constraints, using lowimpact equipment that prevents soil compaction and rutting, implementing buffer zones around watercourses and sensitive habitats, and providing detailed work records and site condition reports as required by Natural England. We have successfully completed forestry projects on multiple SSSI sites across Herefordshire, working closely with Natural England officers and site managers to ensure full compliance with site management plans. For estate managers and conservation organizations managing SSSI woodlands, choosing a contractor with proven SSSI experience is essential. Non-compliant work can result in enforcement action, damage to protected habitats, and reputational risk. Our track record on sensitive sites provides the assurance you need that your woodland management will meet the highest environmental standards

Equipment & Methodology

Our equipment fleet is specifically assembled for low-impact forestry work on sensitive sites.

The Först TR6P tracked chipper is the cornerstone of our approach, featuring rubber tracks that distribute weight evenly and prevent ground damage even on soft or wet soils. With a powerful chipping capacity, it processes brash efficiently on-site, eliminating the need for multiple trips to remove material and reducing overall site disturbance.

The 2.8ton arb-digger provides timber handling and extraction capability in a compact footprint. Unlike larger excavators that cannot navigate narrow woodland rides or work near veteran trees without risk of root damage, this machine offers the perfect balance of capability and sensitivity. Equipped with a timber grab, it can stack and load timber efficiently while maintaining the precision needed for conservation work.

Our David Brown tractor represents traditional forestry capability adapted for modern environmental standards. Its moderate power and weight make it ideal for forwarding timber on woodland tracks without causing the rutting that heavier modern tractors create. For many estates, this classic approach to timber extraction aligns with their aesthetic and environmental values while delivering practical results.

The Defender 110 with tipper provides site access and material transport, navigating rough tracks and steep terrain that standard vehicles cannot manage. This ensures we can reach remote woodland blocks without requiring extensive track improvements that would damage the site character

Estate Forestry & Woodland Management

Estate forestry requires a different approach than commercial timber harvesting. Estate managers balance multiple objectives: maintaining the aesthetic character of historic landscapes, enhancing biodiversity and conservation value, generating sustainable timber income, and ensuring compliance with grant scheme requirements. Treecision understands these complex priorities and tailors our forestry services to support your estate's unique management goals. We work with numerous estates across Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire, providing both project-based forestry work and ongoing woodland management partnerships. Our approach begins with understanding your objectives: Are you managing woodland primarily for conservation? For sustainable timber production? For landscape enhancement? For grant scheme compliance? Each objective requires a different silvicultural approach, and we adapt our methodology accordingly. For estates enrolled in Countryside Stewardship or considering Woodland Carbon Code registration, we provide the technical expertise needed to ensure your forestry work supports scheme requirements. This includes following prescribed thinning schedules, maintaining appropriate stocking densities, protecting ancient woodland features, and providing the documentation required for grant claims and carbon verification. Beyond the technical work, we recognize that estate forestry is relationship-based. You need contractors who understand the importance of discretion, professional presentation, and minimal disruption to estate operations. We coordinate our work around shooting seasons, estate events, and other activities, ensuring forestry operations integrate smoothly with the broader estate calendar. Many of our estate clients return to us year after year for ongoing woodland management, a testament to the quality and reliability of our service.

Case Study: 9-Acre Woodland Thinning

In Febuary 2026, Treecision completed a comprehensive -acre woodland thinning project in Cradley,Herefordshire demonstrating our capability to deliver large-scale forestry work while maintaining the environmental sensitivity required for estate management.

The woodland had not been actively managed for over 15 years, resulting in severe overcrowding (over 2,000 stems per hectare in some areas), poor stem quality, and significant ash dieback presence throughout the site.

The client's objectives were to improve overall woodland health through selective thinning, release high-quality retained trees from competition, remove ash dieback hazards, and extract valuable timber while maintaining minimal environmental impact.

Site access presented challenges due to sloping terrain and seasonal waterlogging, requiring our lowimpact tracked equipment to prevent soil damage. Our approach involved comprehensive pre-work assessment and tree marking, selective removal of approximately 30% of standing volume (focusing on poor-quality stems, overcrowded areas, and diseased trees), directional motor-manual felling to avoid damage to retained trees, and tracked chipper processing of all brash with complete site clearance. Timber was extracted using our David Brown tractor and stacked at designated collection points.

The transformation achieved was significant: light penetration to the woodland floor increased dramatically, retained trees now have optimal spacing for crown development, ash dieback hazards were eliminated, and extracted all of the valuable timber.

The woodland is now positioned for long-term sustainable management with a regular thinning cycle.

This project exemplifies our capability to deliver professional forestry results on sensitive sites, balancing ecological, economic, and aesthetic objectives to meet estate management goals
